Return Policy

The Blackout Drive is a physical hardware product — a USB drive with software pre-loaded on it. We stand behind the hardware. If something is wrong with your drive, we will make it right.
We offer a 30-day return window from the date of delivery for defective or damaged items.
PRE-ORDERS: Pre-orders may be cancelled for a full refund at any time before shipment. Once your order has shipped, the standard return policy below applies.
What Qualifies for a Return
We will accept returns and issue a replacement or full refund if:
- ✓ The drive does not mount or is not recognized by your computer
- ✓ The drive is physically damaged upon arrival
- ✓ You received the wrong item or wrong bundle
- ✓ The software fails to launch on a supported system (Mac or Windows with compatible hardware)
- ✓ A radio included in a Basecamp or Field Kit is DOA (dead on arrival)
What Does Not Qualify for a Return
- ✗Hardware incompatibility. If your Windows PC does not have a dedicated NVIDIA or AMD GPU, the AI engine cannot load — this is disclosed on the product page before purchase. This is not a defect.
- ✗Change of mind. We cannot accept returns because you decided you no longer want the product after it has been received and used.
- ✗Unsupported operating systems. Linux is listed as experimental and untested. Chromebooks, iPads, and phones are not supported. These are disclosed before purchase.
- ✗AI performance expectations. BEACON is a local AI — it is slower than cloud AI and has a knowledge cutoff. These are features of offline AI, not defects.
If you are unsure whether your issue qualifies, email us first — we'd rather help you get it working than process a return.
How to Start a Return
Email support@theblackoutdrive.com with your order number and a description of the issue. We will respond within 2 business days. You can also request a return directly from your order confirmation email.
If your return is accepted, you are responsible for return shipping costs. We recommend USPS Ground Advantage or Priority Mail with a tracking number — we are not responsible for items lost in transit without tracking. Do not send items back without first receiving approval — unapproved returns will not be accepted.
Tip: A USB drive in a padded envelope typically ships USPS Ground Advantage for $5–9 depending on your location. Keep your receipt and tracking number until your refund is confirmed.

Condition of Returned Items
Items must be returned in the same condition received — undamaged, with all original accessories (antennas, cables, packaging). Bundles must be returned complete. We reserve the right to refuse a refund on items returned damaged due to misuse.
Exchanges
If you ordered the wrong product or want to switch between the standalone drive and the bundle, contact us within 30 days. The fastest path is to return the item you have and place a new order once the return is approved.
European Union — 14-Day Cooling Off Period
If your order is shipping to the European Union, you have the right to cancel or return your order within 14 days of delivery for any reason without justification. The item must be in its original condition and packaging. Contact us at support@theblackoutdrive.com to initiate.
Refunds
Once we receive and inspect the return, we will notify you of approval within 2 business days. If approved, your refund will be issued to the original payment method within 10 business days. Processing times vary by bank or card issuer.
